Forlorn Hope: Nightmare

You are here: Home1 / Forlorn Hope: Nightmare

Basic Information and Concept

The Forlorn Hope: Nightmare is a horror game set during the Peninsular War, firmly based in the real world, but featuring fictional scenarios that could not have occurred during that conflict.

The game will run over three days, from Friday Evening to the early hours of Sunday morning, and will be fully catered by our on-site chef for those who purchase a meal ticket, who will be producing thematic and immersive meals handpicked for this game. This is not reenactment; we will not be critiquing the authenticity of your belt buckle! Costume is aspirational, however the aesthetics of the Napoleonic period are very striking and thus should be thought of as equally important to the name and traits of the character you wish to play. This is a game focused around horror, and will involve moving around the site at night.

The Forlorn Hope: Nightmare is inspired by media such as Sharpe, A field in England, Dog Soldiers, and the broader horror genre.

Setting

The year is 1809. The Peninsular War has just begun, and the British expeditionary force is being chased back to the coast by the French, under the command of Marshal Soult. Allied Spanish forces were scattered by the French onslaught, and both equipment and those too wounded or ill to continue were abandoned behind the fleeing army. Both armies suffered from the harsh winter conditions. Much of the British army suffers from a loss of order and discipline during the retreat.

Players will take on the role of members of an impromptu unit, made up of the shattered remnants of the British rearguard. Tasked with holding off the advancing French units, the winter conditions, lack of supplies and harsh terrain will prove as much of an obstacle as Soult’s forces.

Crewing

Forlorn Hope: Nightmare is going to be a high exertion larp, taking place primarily at night, that will likely go on until the early hours of Sunday morning. While there will be a small handful of more roleplay heavy roles, the vast majority of the crew experience will involve high intensity combat encounters over the course of several hours. While the game runners see crew wellbeing as of critical importance, and it is perfectly fine if not encouraged to take some time out to rest and relax so that you don’t burn out, please keep these factors in mind when applying for a crew role.
