Story So Far
King John has crushed the rebels at Ludlow Castle, sending a clear message to all. The seeds of rebellion the Outlaws have carefully sown are now being smothered, as John’s Sheriff double their efforts to hunt down hoods and lawbreakers.
Yet all is not well for the King, for he has foreign foes to consider too. Arthur of Brittany, with the support of King Phillip of France, challenges John’s claim to the Throne, believing himself the rightful King of England and Richard’s true successor.
They war over Normandy and a great amount of wealth and manpower is being sent to the continent to defend John’s holdings. Sources close to William Marshall tell of a great caravan of silver, taken from Ludlow, has been dispatched to bribe Norman lords with shaky loyalty and to pay for a new host of mercenaries to defeat this final threat. The shipment presents a prime opportunity for William Marshall’s broken rebellion.
By stealing the silver, Marshall could begin to steal mercenaries out from under John’s nose and further shake the faith of the English nobility in the current king.
Better yet, it would show the common folk that the King can still be resisted. As such, Marshall calls all who still believe in the banner of rebellion to meet his contacts by Andover for a desperate, final gambit.
